• London SE1 - near Waterloo
  The Mad Hatter hotel. ***  This three star hotel is conveniently located close to the national Theatre, the Tate Modern, and the London Eye. Within walking distance of Westminster. It has a restaurant and bar, and gets very favourable reviews. 
  
• London WC1, near museums & theatres
  Bloomsbury Hotel **** Four star hotel, four star prices, but invariably good write-ups for this hotel close to the British Museum, Covent Garden and the theater district. Easy access to most of central London. 
  
• London W2, near Oxford St
  Parkwood guest house *** This 18-room three star guest house is located in a side street just a short distance from Hyde Park, Oxford St. and the West End shopping area. Excellent location, good value for money. .
  
• London W2, near Hyde Park
  London Guards Hotel *** In a quiet location 200 metres from Hyde Park, & near Lancaster Gate tube station. Nothing fancy here, but quiet location and good value for money. For the price, you won't find much better in the West End. 
  
• London SW5, near Earls Court, Kensington
  Westbury Hotel ** This is very much a hotel for the budget-conscious traveller; don't expect luxury, the rooms are small; but they are clean and the staff work hard. Close to tube station. 

• Sutton, Surrey
  The ** Thatched House Hotel.  Quiet 24-room hotel with free car parking. Friendly atmosphere, garden, restaurant, good value for money (Note; this hotel may quote room rates for a minimum of two nights ). Located in walking distance from the centre of Sutton, a pleasant suburban area, and the train station, for easy access to Central London.
• Northwest London - Pinner - Harrow
  the **** Grimsdyke hotel is a gem, and good value. Built by WS Gilbert (of Gilbert and Sullivan fame), this is a classic Victorian mansion and a listed building with masses of character. It stands in 40 acres of grounds, with lovely gardens and plenty of free parking. Bar and restaurant. 47 rooms. Hatch End station is 5 minutes by car - free parking in the residential streets north of A410 before reaching the station. 
• Southeast London
  Easy access from Dover direction
  Sundridge Park Manor *** A fine suburban stately home, standing in its own grounds. Fabulous setting, free parking. Restaurant, bar, free wifi. Recommended from Monday to Friday morning, because the hotel is heavily booked for weddings and functions over the weekend. Station 800 yards, with trains to central London in 20 minutes.

• Kent - Wye near Ashford, 
  
  The New Flying Horse Inn,  Traditional rural inn a few miles from Ashford, in the Kentish countryside; easy access to Dover and the Channel Tunnel
  
• Kent - Canterbury
  the Millers Arms Inn, in the heart of old Canterbury, is an old inn classed as a **** hotel, but with generally affordable prices. The inn offers a good restaurant, and of course the traditional atmosphere of the English inn. Parking is avaialble close by.
  
• East Sussex,  near Hailsham, .
  The two-star Olde Forge hotel, at Magham down, is set in the heart of the Wealden countryside, close to many National Trust properties. The restaurant, with timber beams and log fires, offers freshly prepared Anglo-French cuisine.
  

• West Sussex, Arundel,  
  The *** Norfolk Arms hotel is located in the village of Arundel, a stone's throw from Arundel castle. Classic English hotel, classic décor, full of character. Restaurant, bar. Cosy rooms, good service and a touch of Olde England..
• West Sussex, Charlton,  
  The Woodstock House hotel offers 12 en-suite bedrooms with all modern amenities, set around an attractive courtyard garden which was originally the Farmyard. It is located in the small village of Charlton, between Chichester and  Midhurst.
•  Hampshire, Andover
  The Cross Keys Inn ***, a quaint traditional inn with its thatched roof, located in the little village of Upper Chute, just north of Andover. The inn has a good restaurant, which is well-known for its home-made pies. In a very quiet location, this hotel makes an excellent base for discovering the local tourist attractions, which include Stonehenge, Salisbury and Winchester.
